Yesterday was the first day this season that I saw the heron at the pond, though I did see it fly overhead about two weeks ago. I was standing a little more than ten feet from it when I took the photo at the top of the post. When I moved closer, it flew behind the scrub along the shoreline. Later, a man pushing a baby stroller came along near the heron and startled it. It flew across the pond, allowing me these photos, which might end up being the best of the season!
