Here is … something. I saw it today on a lily pad. It was about an inch and a quarter long, perhaps a bit more. (I much prefer to look at and photograph birds.) Most yucky about finding this was, later on, looking through my reference book about insects to try to determine what it is. I think it’s a naiad (of a dragonfly perhaps), except that the head shape doesn’t quite match the photos I saw in my book. And, as well, naiads seem to have antlers coming off their rear end, which this thing does not. When I first saw it, I actually wondered if it were a tiny reptile. Its skin seemed more reptilian than insect like. Feel free to comment with your identification ideas.
