Fall Self Portrait
This weekend gifted my region with some of the best weather we’ve had in months. The pond celebrated the warm sunshine and clear air as the fall colors peaked.
On Monday, the Crows ruled the sky and trees. Something had them cawing and cruising.
Hawks soared nearby. I call this type photo a ‘two-fer’, as I get two subjects in one shot. (I keep a file of ‘two-fers’.) My best guess is that the larger bird is a Turkey Vulture and the smaller, a Broad-winged Hawk.
Even the surface of the water presented a array of interests. First, a water bug skittles at a frenetic pace.
And below, a single leaf floats atop metalic, blue-gray water.
And the reflections on the water’s surface mesmerized me. I have a collection of at least two dozen shots like those shown below, each displaying a spectrum of fall colors in varying watercolor patterns. I share two here. I’m thrilled by these photos and would love feedback on them.
The picture below is right-side-up, as it’s a reflection. I love the gradual increase in intensity of color, from top to bottom. Some of these photos I’ve duplicated and refiled as ‘flipped’ – after I’ve turned them upside down to see how they display as if true water-color paintings.
Perched on branches, a blue bird (I can’t determine what kind from my resources) and a dragonfly stop for a brief rest.
The reeds suddenly have a vivid richness in their color as they are no longer hidden in a backdrop of green.
Today clouds rolled in but they didn’t detract from the foliage – in fact, the lighting enhanced the scene at the pond.

It just gets better and better. Your two-fers are astonishing – that just doesn\’t happen every day. Now to the \”watercolor; Opus II,\” your masterpiece! Simply beautiful.

Thanks for your visit and your comment! I love the watercolor photos. As I\’m fairly new to photography, I wonder if this is a common practice – to zoom in and shoot the water surface for a watercolor effect. I don\’t recall ever seeing it before in photographs. It\’s thrilling to see the results! Thanks again – Mary
